General Motors maakte gisteren officieel bekend dat het Hummer heeft verkocht, maar het bleef de grote vraag aan wie dat dan was. Inmiddels heeft GM ook op die vraag een antwoord gegeven.
De nieuwe eigenaar van Hummer heet Sichuan Tengzhong Heavy Industrial Machinery Co., Ltd (Tengzhong). De Hummer-fabrieken en het management blijven na de deal in de Verenigde Staten. Zodoende blijven 3.000 banen behouden. Het bedrag dat Tengzhong voor Hummer heeft neergeteld, is op dit moment niet bekend.
Tengzhong is een Chinese machinefabriek, die in de huidige vorm nog maar sinds 2005 bestaat. Ook maakt het bedrijf trucks en specialistische voertuigen voor de bouw en olietransport. De Chinezen willen het dealernetwerk van Hummer fors uitbreiden en de ‘nieuwe rijken’ in Rusland, India en het thuisland bedienen.
